Romanian club’s score first.

Another mountain after Sevilla

Dinamo Pitești’s European debut had already brought victory over Sevilla. Toulouse threatened to bring it to an abrupt end. A 3–0 defeat in France on 19 October 1966 left the Romanian side needing an exceptional return. A week later, their supporters came to see whether the adventure could continue.

Hope, then another setback

Constantin David scored first. Toulouse equalised before half-time through Édouard Wojciak, leaving Pitești with four goals still to find. The interval offered little comfort: an entire European campaign depended on one extraordinary half.

Ten minutes that changed everything

Dobrin headed in after a corner. Constantin Radu then scored twice, his second a fierce strike from distance. Suddenly it was 4–1. The ground had a comeback to believe in, but Toulouse’s away goal still stood between Pitești and qualification. One more was needed.

The wait for the fifth

The minutes slipped away. Toulouse slowed the game and Soukhane struck the post on a counterattack. At the other end, every attack carried the same demand: a fifth goal. Four would leave the home side with a remarkable victory and the bitterest possible exit.

Țurcan, at the last

In the final moments, a corner brought the ball into a crowded penalty area. A clearance reached Mihai Țurcan. With opponents around him, he found the shot that made it 5–1. The contemporary report recalls the stadium’s release of joy and the players’ lap of honour. Pitești had needed four second-half goals. They had found the last one just in time.

About the historical details and source differences

Inspired by FC Argeș’s anniversary article, which reproduces G. Nicolaescu’s contemporary report. The narrative is paraphrased. The club account places the three early second-half goals between minutes 49 and 59; other match records differ slightly, so the narrative avoids exact minutes. At 4–1 the aggregate score was level but Toulouse led on away goals; Țurcan’s fifth secured an outright aggregate win. This was the original Toulouse club of the 1960s.
