Score details & methodology

MS: Romanian clubs earned 6 of 18 possible match points (2 wins and 2 draws in 9 matches), using two points for a win and one for a draw.

KP excludes group and unique group stages. Romanian clubs qualified for the next round or won the final in 1 of 4 confirmed knockout encounters against this opposition. Qualification outcomes: 1 qualified / won the final · 3 did not qualify / lost the final.

GO compares the final group / unique group qualification outcomes of Romanian clubs and the opponents they actually faced. It does not mean qualification was decided directly between those two teams.

  • O · 1 — Romanian club eliminated; opponent qualified or transferred (0 per comparison).
How the Success Index and its three measures work

This archive’s Success Index combines KP (40%), MS (20%) and GO (40%). Knockout qualification and group / unique group qualification receive equal weight. KP includes qualifying rounds as well as later knockout rounds; the index does not separately adjust for opponent strength. These are editorial weights, not an official UEFA rating. Only principal competitions are included. Each component is calculated before rounding.

MS = (2 × wins + draws) ÷ (2 × scored matches) × 100. Includes group and unique group matches. Results after extra time count; shoot-out goals do not. Awarded results count in totals, but are excluded from biggest-result records.

KP = successful Romanian qualification outcomes ÷ confirmed knockout encounters × 100. A success means the Romanian club qualified for the next round; in a final, it means the Romanian club won the trophy. Each whole tie or final counts once, including qualification decided by penalties, away goals or an additional match. Group and unique group stages are excluded.

GO = (Q + 0.50 × S + 0.25 × D) ÷ (Q + S + D + N + O) × 100. Q means only the Romanian club qualified in the same competition; S means both qualified there; D means the Romanian club transferred to another competition, regardless of its opponent’s outcome; N means neither continued; O means only the opponent continued. If the Romanian club qualified in the same competition while the opponent transferred, the comparison is Q.

Each Romanian club–opponent comparison counts once per group / unique group phase, regardless of the number of matches. A country total sums those opponent comparisons, not distinct group appearances. Different opponents in a unique group may have faced different schedules. Ongoing and unconfirmed outcomes are excluded. Sample sizes appear beside each score; small samples can produce extreme values. Goals are reported separately.

Deciding momentsAway goals, penalties, extra time and additional matches

All outcomes are from the Romanian club’s perspective: Won means the Romanian club progressed or won the final; Lost means its opponent did. Away goals, shoot-outs and replays count once per tie. The a.e.t. row counts individual matches requiring extra time, including those later decided on penalties. Its Won / Lost columns show the eventual tie or final outcome.

Descriptive outcomes, excluded from KP. Advancing and transferring to another competition are distinct. Only opponents actually faced are compared; a group outcome is not a head-to-head qualification decision.

The opponent club’s honours, across completed editions reviewed on 26 October 2026—not only editions in which it faced Romanian clubs. Covers the ten competitions listed under Sources & scope below. These honours are separate from the Success Index, which measures Romanian results against this opponent.

Sources & scope

European Cup / Champions League, UEFA Cup / Europa League, Conference League, Cup Winners’ Cup and Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. Also includes the UEFA Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup (1960–2004), FIFA Intercontinental Cup (since 2024), FIFA Club World Cup and the Secondary Competition, Balkans Cup. Domestic trophies are excluded. The three world competitions are separate records; FIFA Intercontinental Cup honours include European clubs only. The unofficial 1972 Super Cup is excluded. Edition labels follow the source even when the match was played later. Balkans Cup runners-up include second place in group-decided editions (1960–61 and 1983–84); these were not losing finalists. Only competitions and outcomes with records are shown. Upcoming finals are excluded.

The Fairs Cup is listed separately from the UEFA Cup / Europa League. Barcelona’s 1955–58 win was achieved as the Barcelona city representative; the 1971 trophy-possession play-off is not counted as an additional competition title. Historic honours follow the club identity in the linked source lists; a modern crest does not date the honour.
